Interview with ESS

Date: 24th November

Time: 6:30pm to 7:45pm

Venue: ESS office

Attendees: Choon Hua. Kun Rong, Sean

Today we headed our way down to interview with ESS, we chiong right after school, after UT somemore, damn tired. At first we feel that the interview is not useful, from Sean previous FYP experience, is that the information they provide are all very vague, not much detail was drawn out.

However, it was a total opposite, in fact we gain way a lot of experience, we learn seriously much more on security agencies roles then what we had in our previous module. It was a awesome experience.

I shall not go into much details on each answers they give us for the question we post, it is all in my report. I will talk more on the interesting things they told us.

Jasman and Liang meng were being interviewed by us, why they are suitable is because they are the director, Director got power so more information we can take, i supposed. True enough a lot damn good information are provided.

A few interesting things i learn was that they are not an agency that really so “gian peng” greedy for money, they want to help client, and maintain good relationship, their CRM is very good, know how to ang kat client, “bootlick”, haha.

Next is on their service, i was very surprise, as they are willing to provide us a with very confidential information, like SOP for an unlanch event. They say cost $50k, as quoted by Cisco, but they give free, siok sia, got $50k dun wan earn, haha.

I also busy body, and ask about interesting things they came across, or funny client. They received client that need 20 guard men around a single person, as they say is their boss, and need heavy protection, they turn down the job, as they scared it might be a gang leader that need people to “pia zui” gang fight with another group. Wedding event they also got turn down, because they say not appropriate to have security, as it is a happy occasion.

Overall, i learn alot from this ESS interview, be it internal management, or on site management. I feel that being a security agencies, professionalism is a top notch priority for them, because they seriously need a lot of reputation to gain client, that is why, even oversea people also approach ESS!.

Submission to Weeleong

We submitted our completed Report, after all our own editing. Wee leong look through it, however it was bounced back.

He say, our formatting Justification was not incorrect, there are alot grammar mistakes, sentence structuring, inconsistency in terms of the format of our report. There are also certain questions regarding the content of our report.

We met up with him and he clarified to us the various things to look out for on the report, like common grammar mistakes, and what he meant by justification format.

Again, we were task among ourselves to do up more things, we came out with table form for the information, so that the accessors are able to view and read our report in a smooth way. I was task to do the Pricing issues.

Sok hong was task to do up the formatting, we had a hard time making the format, we put up numbers at the sides. It is definitely not easy to do it, but in the end Sok hong manage to complete the formatting, Kudos to her!.

Just to wrap up a few words, i feel that this FYP are working pretty smoothly, except for some challenges face when gathering information. However, the entire team fair pretty well, same as my last semester, no disagreement, every have their own view point, and also justify with reasoning. In other words, we seriously did really well for this FYP la.

15  . Things to be included in report

b. Things that we have done to value add to the event’s organizer

Weeleong commented on the questionnaire that we have send, he edited it. He also advised on the report content, he says that the report target audience is different from Wikidot.com, so certain information can be post at wikidot which the event organizer will find it useful, if too much info, they will think it is redundant, so we must take note.

Learn about being able to understand my target audiences needs in terms of what i should bring about. In relation to what Wee leong had shared, the audience is different for Report and the Wiki catalogue, thus our team must understand the information being produced must be clear enough for the audience to know, and not redundant information. Not only that, we must also ensure the information being put up are being protected, or ethics issue is being address, as certain informations we gathered are considered sensitive, so we must understand whether is it wise to put up the informations.

FYP meeting 10

FYP meeting 10

Date: 12 November 2008

Time: 1pm – 4.30pm

Venue: school library

Attendance: all

Purpose: meet out with wee leong

Start doing analysis

- The field that we have

- The size of agency

- The experience of agency

- The grading of agency

- Why they never graded A, is it because of the SIRD grading

- What is the criteria to get a A

- How efficiency is the agency (can I get the 24 hours hotline so that I can call) à to get a A grading

- Coming out with a template

- One of the analysis, customer service (we can grade)

o How do we come out with the grading

- Branch out to do a profiling of the event security specialist

- Registry of business in Singapore to find out more information about each company

- Catalogue can be done in Microsoft access

So met up, and wee leong share on the areas we can improved on our catalogue. We came out with interview questionnaire to prepare for our interview. Our report will be splited to be done, and sok hong and choon hua will do on the formating, me and sean will format the Cataloguing. The cataloguing got two option, one is to use access, the other is to use Wikidot.com. Both is useful for event company to use when they want to find out more information of which security agencies they wished to use.

Learn about report writing is still a important phase in FYP, which cannot be done by just one person alone, our this project have different component, such as the catalogue, the interviews and many others, which certain member are good at certain area. The report shall be splited up based on the key area, and being added later on to ensure each member understand the report well.

I also learn about how the catalogue can further help various parties in the future once we have finished. Similar to my previous FYP, it can benefit event organizers as well that would like to hold event and use security agencies. The entire process is not exactly the same as my previous one, this time we conduct interview to maximise the catalogue value.

FYP meeting 8 Cold calling

FYP meeting 8

Date: 22 october 2009

Time: 1pm – 5.20pm

Venue: school library

Attendance: sokhong , kun rong

Purpose: cold calling to all the security agencies

This is fun! whoo hoo!. We going to call today, but only got me and Sok Hong, as Choon hua fly to New Zealand, and Sean got Wrestling. So we met up with Wee Leong for borrowing of laptop with media ring. Wah kao eh, very troublesome sia, must download the correct version, and do alot stuff. We must head our way down to RPC to look for Zhao guang in charge of Media ring to help us configure.

After it is installed, we use it to call. At the start both of us very scared, don’t know how to say, then we write down the various point we need to touch on. We were thinking of being honest and said that we are students doing on a project on security, however Wee leong suggested that will the company answer to your enquiry more if you are a company wanted to use thier service.

Me and Sok Hong decided to fake our identity out, we call ourselves Drex events, our fake company name. True enough is that the company are very willing to give us more information of them, such as contacts of thier sales manager, pricing of thier services.

Sok Hong was very nervous and gan cheong when they ask unexpected question, because she cannot lie well, but lying is in fact difficult, however some people are very good at it. haha. Somehow, i feel happy when i manage to lie through my way. Anyway, the responses are funny, some say they no longer working or thier company closing down soon.

FYP meeting 7

FYP meeting 7

Date: 15th October 2008

Venue: school library

Time: 1pm – 4pm

Objective: meet up with advisor

Attendance: sok hong, choon hua, sean, kun rong

Today we discussed on the various question and approach that we wanted to ask the security company we have choosen for an interview.

Shared our experience with Wee leong on the event that my team members did, but i never go, haha. But i got go on a wednesday, so that we can conduct a interview with them, but they need me do things before they can interview. haha. what thing leh? cannot say la (secret). Globewerk people all very nice, very helpful when we interview them.

Other than the interview with event organizer, we need to interview security company, so Wee leong give us some insights on the questionaire to ask the security company, below are the various areas we talk about. He too treated us lunch. haha, but the chicken “buay sek” not cook. Thanks for the lunch.

Regarding the literature review, our library have very limited books on security, which all are not relevant. As for the police magazine, we found a few but not useful. The librarian give us a contact to the police libarary, however, the security clearance there are very tight, so we decideded not to go there, as it might be pretty troublesom, time consuming and worse of all, we get nothing in return.

Next week have to start calling up on the agencies listed in our catalogue for more information such as pricing all that. Question is what kind of identity are we going to use? Is it a student or an event company. Kind of excited because can cold call.

Security: questions to ask them

Why do they want to come into event security?

Case study on events that they have done

· Any incident that happened and how hey handle

· Any policy do they have

· Any training needed to be a security

· Problems in security à too many part-timers (do they really have the skills and qualification?)

· WSQ (WDA)

· Do they have regional partner

· SRID (police)

Request for security agency grading

· Other fields to add to the catalogue

· Literature review, newslink, news articles, police ‘live’ magazine, association of security

Cataloguing of the Agencies

I went to start on the catalogue, i was task to do up on Guards Security category. It was pretty easy to do, since my previous FYP is about cataloguing as well. However, some difficulties i faced is actually similar to my previous FYP, which is the information provided is very limited.

Initially we thought of using Yellow pages, however the information available was not that useful

Our catalogue need more then just this simple information. We need to call up the company in order to put in additional information. E-guides contain the company profile, and have more available contacts and address, Yellow pages did not have.

The entire process was easy to do, however it is very tedious, and time consuming. It requires a few days to finished the entire catalogue, good thing is we have split up the work load.
